Origins & Roots Born in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province, and raised in Gijang, Busan, Yun Seung-min grew up with a vibrant curiosity for sounds and textures. Raised in a bustling household with his parents and three older sisters—including a twin sister—his early life laid the foundation for an eclectic artistic perspective that defied mainstream conventions.
Formative Years & Discovery Before finding his footing in the Seoul underground, Seung-min navigated various odd jobs, working at a supermarket, a restaurant, and even as a studio cleaner. These humble beginnings instilled a resilient work ethic that directly fueled his relentless creative output and desire to learn from every single life experience.
Breakthrough & Ascension Adopting the moniker Mudd the Student—reflecting his love for the sound of 'Mudd' and the philosophy that there is always something new to learn—he officially debuted on December 3, 2019, with his album Mudd. His distinctive alternative sonic identity captured widespread public attention when he competed on the hit survival show Show Me The Money 10, securing a spot in the Top 8.
Accolades & Global Vision As an integral member of the multidisciplinary alternative collective Balming Tiger, Mudd found a second family that mirrored his experimental ethos. His groundbreaking contributions earned him a nomination for New Artist of the Year at the 2022 Korean HipHop Awards, cementing his status as a visionary force in modern Korean music.
Artistic Philosophy & Legacy Rejecting rigid genre labels like standard hip-hop or rap, Mudd crafts music driven by genuine emotion, eclectic instrumentation, and playful experimentation. With aspirations to collaborate with global icons like Pharrell Williams and Damon Albarn, his enduring legacy lies in his unwavering commitment to creative freedom and lifelong learning.
