SixTONES

Origins & Roots Formed in May 2015 under the esteemed Johnny & Associates banner, SixTONES emerged from the rigorous training grounds of Johnny’s Jr., bringing together six distinct personalities—Kochi Yugo, Kyomoto Taiga, Tanaka Juri, Matsumura Hokuto, Jesse, and Morimoto Shintaro. Their collective formation was uniquely initiated by member Jesse, who envisioned a powerhouse unit rather than pursuing solo careers. The group's name, originally conceptualized as 'Six Tones', carries a double entendre: representing the six individual voices and stones while subtly implying 'tones' that lack semitones, reflecting their unique sonic edge.

Formative Years & Training Long before their official CD debut, the members spent years refining their craft on theatrical stages, variety shows, and massive concert tours as junior trainees. They gained initial widespread recognition through the 2012 drama 'Shiritsu Bakaleya Koukou', which cemented their dynamic chemistry and built a fiercely loyal pre-debut fanbase. Balancing intense choreography rehearsals, vocal training, and individual acting pursuits, each member carved out a distinct niche—from theatrical musicals and rap artistry to dramatic silver-screen performances.

Breakthrough Ascension On January 22, 2020, SixTONES achieved a historic milestone by debuting simultaneously with fellow agency group Snow Man, releasing their smash-hit single 'Imitation Rain' (composed by Yoshiki of X Japan). The release shattered records, selling over a million copies within days and propelling them straight to the pinnacle of the Japanese music industry. Their signature blend of rock-infused pop, sophisticated R&B, and powerful harmonies captivated audiences nationwide, establishing them as trailblazers of a new generation.

Global Acclaim & Honors Over the years, SixTONES has amassed numerous prestigious accolades, including multiple Japan Gold Disc Awards and critical acclaim for their cinematic music videos and live vocal stability. Individual members have also shone brightly in the cinematic world, with Matsumura Hokuto winning Newcomer of the Year at the Japan Academy Prize. Their brand partnerships span high-fashion editorials, digital campaigns, and mainstream television, solidifying their status as cultural icons.

Artistic Legacy & Philosophy Beyond their chart-topping success, SixTONES is celebrated for their authentic camaraderie, playful humor, and dedication to pushing musical boundaries. Refusing to be confined by conventional idol tropes, they continually experiment with diverse genres and self-produced concepts. Through their resilient spirit and artistic evolution, SixTONES continues to inspire a global legion of fans known as Team SixTONES, leaving an indelible mark on modern Asian music.
