Origins & Roots Born Shin Yubin on December 25, 2001, in Daegu, South Korea, Swervy developed an exceptionally diverse worldview from an early age. Growing up, they experienced life across multiple continents, living in Hong Kong, Germany, China, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Canada. This multicultural upbringing instilled an innate fluency in English and a broad, boundary-pushing artistic palate that would later define their musical identity.
Formative Years & Trials Displaying an independent spirit early on, Swervy made the bold decision to drop out of formal school at the age of twelve, pursuing education through alternative means such as Cyber University. Immersing themselves in subcultures, gaming, and rock music, they found solace and inspiration in the underground digital spaces before channeling those eclectic influences directly into rap and lyricism.
Breakthrough & Ascension Swervy's official entry into the Korean hip-hop scene arrived when they released their single 'Hybrid' in April 2017, followed by their debut EP 'Bunny Bullet' under Team Yaya in January 2018. Gaining mainstream visibility through high-profile appearances on competitive survival programs like 'Show Me The Money 777' and 'SMTM8', Swervy quickly commanded respect for their razor-sharp flow and uncompromising artistic vision.
Landmarks & Honors Cementing their reputation as a versatile force, Swervy became known for major collaborative projects, including joining forces with Paloalto, Jowonu, and Huckleberry P for Dingo x Hi-Lite Records, and delivering an unforgettable performance on Dingo Freestyle’s 'Killing Verse'. In 2021, they co-founded the project group HEARTCORE alongside Reddy, Yoshi, and Sui, expanding their sonic footprint with the critically acclaimed self-titled EP.
Legacy & Philosophy As an openly genderqueer artist navigating the traditionally rigid Korean entertainment landscape, Swervy stands as a beacon of modern inclusivity and self-expression. Unfettered by conventional genre tags and driven by a love for rock, gaming, and deep cultural exploration, Swervy continues to chart a fiercely independent and influential path in contemporary Asian music.
