Origins & Roots Kim Hyun-joon, globally recognized under the enigmatic moniker Tabber, was born on December 10, 1994, in South Korea. During his formative high school years, he spent time as an international student in the United States, an immersive experience that deeply shaped his worldview and artistic inclinations. Far from restricting his focus to sound alone, his time abroad cultivated an intense fascination with Western visual arts, architecture, and classic cinema, elements that would later become the aesthetic cornerstones of his musical output.
Training & Formative Trials While navigating life in the US, Tabber began experimenting with music creation, translating his introspective observations into raw verses and beats. Unlike many peers who followed conventional trainee paths, Tabber honed his craft independently. He developed a distinct, atmospheric vocal cadence and lyrical style driven by mood rather than rigid genre conventions. His entry into the broader professional scene began through digital networking, notably sending an original demo via social media to producers 2xxx! and Korean R&B icon DEAN.
Breakthrough & Ascension The turning point in Tabber’s career materialized when DEAN recognized his unique talent, leading to his landmark signing under the avant-garde label you.will.knovv. On August 13, 2020, Tabber officially debuted with his critically acclaimed EP, Deep End Mix Tape, drawing heavy inspiration from cult classic films like Only Lovers Left Alive, Twilight, and The Matrix. His collaboration on the explosive track '3AM Freestyle' alongside DEAN and Kim Ximya catapulted him into the spotlight, establishing him as a magnetic force in the alternative Korean hip-hop landscape.
Landmarks & Acclaim Tabber’s artistic footprint expanded dramatically when he stepped onto the national stage as a standout contestant on Mnet’s mega-hit survival program Show Me The Money 10. His distinct sonic identity earned him finalist status in HIPHOPLE’s prestigious THE:RISE 4 with the mesmerizing track 'Adrenaline'. Fused with strategic collaborations alongside Dingo Freestyle and a growing list of international tastemakers, Tabber has continually garnered high critical praise for pushing the envelope of underground R&B and hip-hop into high-art territory.
Artistic Legacy & Philosophy Tabber operates under a philosophy of anti-pretension; even his moniker was chosen simply because it sounds compelling rather than carrying an over-engineered narrative. Known for his signature black performance gloves, natural curls, and penchant for buying fresh flowers, he balances a brooding stage persona with an eclectic creative curiosity. As he continues to expand his discography, Tabber remains an enduring emblem of modern sonic storytelling, bridging cinematic atmosphere with raw Korean street culture.
