Origins & Roots 10cm emerged from the vibrant indie underground of South Korea, originally founded as an acoustic duo by Kwon Jung-yeol and Yoon Cheol-jong in April 2010. Taking their quirky moniker from the height difference between the two founding members, the act instantly captured the public imagination with raw acoustic arrangements.
Formative Trials Navigating the early indie circuit in Hongdae, the duo relied on street performances and small club gigs. Their stripped-down setup—featuring acoustic guitars, a djembe, and tambourine—provided an intimate, organic contrast to the heavily produced idol music dominating mainstream television.
Breakthrough Ascension The definitive turning point arrived with iconic indie anthems like 'Americano' and subsequent chart-topping tracks. Their playful yet melancholic lyricism resonated deeply with urban youth, transforming them from underground darlings into commercial heavyweights.
Global Acclaim Following structural changes in 2017 with Kwon Jung-yeol continuing solo under the 10cm banner, the project reached new heights. Landmark solo albums, blockbuster K-drama OSTs, and massive sold-out arena tours cemented their status as foundational pillars of modern Korean indie pop.
