Origins & Roots Formed under the umbrella of Banana Culture, Banana Culture Girls—commonly referred to as Newkid—stood as one of the most promising yet ill-fated pre-debut girl group projects of the late 2010s. Comprising four exceptionally talented trainees—Songsun, Nayoung, Hyunbin, and Maika—the collective captured the imagination of K-Pop enthusiasts who closely followed the inner workings of elite trainee development.
Training & Formative Trials The members endured rigorous daily schedules filled with vocal coaching, intense choreography sessions, and media training. Operating under a shared roof, the quartet developed tight-knit bonds, frequently documenting their journey and showcasing their burgeoning artistry through their dedicated YouTube channel, Bananact Newkid, where fans could enjoy vocal covers and lighthearted vlogs.
Breakthrough & Transition Despite generating significant pre-debut buzz—heightened by Nayoung’s standout participation in the survival reality program Produce 48—external corporate shifts at Banana Culture ultimately led to the quiet dissolution of the Newkid project before they could officially debut on a mainstream broadcast stage.
Ascension & New Horizons Rather than letting their talents fade, the members exhibited remarkable resilience. Songsun and Hyunbin successfully transitioned to TR Entertainment to debut in TRI.BE, while Nayoung found her home in Cube Entertainment as a core member of LIGHTSUM, ensuring their collective training foundation blossomed globally.
