Origins & Roots Formed in Tokyo, Japan in 2021 right at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, COPES emerged as a beacon of resilience in an uncertain era. The band's name carries a profound philosophy: to 'cope' is to actively deal with and overcome the difficult, stressful hard times that life throws at individuals, transforming adversity into melodic power.
Formative Trials The initial spark ignited when Nanako Kamei and Yuuki Shiina connected online through a musician recruitment platform. Facing a pivotal shift toward a high-energy pop-punk sound, Nanako equipped herself with a Gibson Les Paul and a MacBook just days before studio sessions, embodying pure dedication to her craft.
Breakthrough Ascent The trio released their first demo tape titled 'WIN' in September 2021, instantly capturing the attention of Tokyo’s underground live music scene. After two years of intensive touring and creative synergy, support drummer Chota officially joined as a permanent member in 2024, cementing their unstoppable live lineup.
Milestone Honors In June 2026, COPES officially signed with the prestigious indie label No Big Deals Records—sharing a home with legendary acts like 04 Limited Sazabys. Their album releases sparked vibrant greeting tours across iconic Shibuya, Shinjuku, and Ikebukuro record stores, expanding their passionate national footprint.
Cultural Legacy Guided by their official motto 'Let's share happy!', COPES channels raw emotional contrasts—merging Nanako's crystal-clear vocals and Yuuki's powerful baritone textures with Chota's seasoned rhythmic precision—creating an enduring anthem for anyone learning to navigate life's cloudy days.
