Origins & Roots Epik High emerged in the early 2000s in Seoul, South Korea, founded by visionaries Tablo, DJ Tukutz, and Mithra Jin. Bringing together diverse international backgrounds and literary influences, the trio forged a unique sonic identity that blended introspective storytelling with underground hip-hop sensibilities.
Formative Years Navigating the early South Korean underground music scene presented numerous hurdles for an alternative hip-hop group during a time dominated by bubblegum pop. Their relentless dedication to authentic lyricism and self-production eventually caught the attention of early labels, setting the stage for their official debut under Woollim Entertainment in 2003.
Breakthrough Ascension The group achieved widespread recognition with breakout records that challenged conventional K-pop norms, fusing lush instrumentation, electronic elements, and poignant social commentary. Their signature sound quickly resonated across Asia, cementing their status as cultural trailblazers.
Global Expansion Over two decades, Epik High transitioned through major management eras—from Woollim and YG Entertainment to establishing their independent label OURS Co. and signing with William Morris Endeavor for US promotions—earning international critical acclaim and headlining major global festivals.
