Origins & Roots Born on June 11, 1992, in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province, Lee Jae-hyun—known globally as JaeDal—grew up with an innate connection to rhythm and expression. His distinctive stage name stems from a affectionate nickname his mother used while he was still in the womb. Growing up in a supportive yet grounded environment, he developed an eclectic appreciation for music and culture, paving the way for his eventual entry into South Korea's vibrant underground creative circuit.
Formative Years & Military Service Like many young South Korean artists, JaeDal fulfilled his mandatory military service in 2012, a period that unexpectedly became the turning point of his artistic life. While serving in the army, he immersed himself in Beenzino's seminal album "24:26." Listening to this masterpiece awakened a deep, burning desire within him to create music that could touch others the way art had touched him during his most disciplined days.
The Underground Breakthrough Returning from service, JaeDal began uploading tracks to SoundCloud in 2014, establishing an authentic digital footprint. He debuted as part of the group Jacoby Planet in 2016 before deciding to forge his own path as an independent solo artist. By sending his debut project directly to the renowned collective LEGIT GOONS, he secured his place within one of hip-hop's most innovative crews, releasing his breakout EP 'Adventure' in 2017.
Artistic Evolution & Partnerships As his career matured, JaeDal expanded his creative horizons by co-founding collaborative projects and aligning with the independent label Blu Tongue, established by his long-time partner, R&B singer SOMA. The couple also shares a creative glimpse into their daily lives via their YouTube channel, DALMA, bridging the gap between underground mystique and approachable authenticity.
Legacy & Philosophy JaeDal's artistic philosophy centers on raw emotional resonance rather than commercial conformity. Rejecting traditional role models in favor of genuine self-expression, he continues to write lyrics designed for deep human connection. Whether running long-distance or penning introspective verses, JaeDal remains an enduring symbol of authentic independence in modern Korean music.
