Origins & Roots Born and raised in the historic city of Dongducheon, South Korea, Choi Sang Hyun—globally recognized by his moniker Polodared—developed an early affinity for rhythmic expression. Growing up away from the glittering high-rises of Gangnam, his formative years were grounded in local street culture and an insatiable appetite for hip-hop tapes. The moniker itself carries a humorous and personal anecdote, originating after a close friend gifted him a distinct red polo shirt.
Training & Mentorship Rising through the grueling ranks of the underground scene, Polodared found a pivotal mentor in Louis of the K-hiphop group Homies, serving proudly as Louis's first and last official rap student. This intensive tutelage honed his stage presence and lyrical delivery, pushing him to develop a commanding vocal timbre that matched his towering physical stature. Even during his middle school years, his rapid growth signaled a towering presence destined for the spotlight.
Breakthrough & Ascension Polodared officially burst into the national consciousness on October 16, 2021, launching his independent career with raw intensity. His fearless ambition led him to the high-pressure battlegrounds of 'Show Me The Money 10' and 'SMTM 11', where memorable unscripted moments—such as his candidly self-deprecating stage blunders—turned him into a viral internet phenomenon and endeared him to fans worldwide.
Accolades & Alliances Cementing his status within the Korean hip-hop elite, Polodared aligned himself with formidable underground collectives including the hip-hop crew YELLIN’ alongside Fleeky Bang, Tray B, J4 Prada, and 40 Murda, as well as the DDC crew. In 2023, his relentless hustle earned him an official home under Dirty Play Records, bridging the gap between raw underground authenticity and professional industry backing.
Legacy & Philosophy Beyond his menacing cadence and formidable physical frame, Polodared remains an eccentric and deeply relatable figure in modern Korean music. Whether he is caring for his pet rats Bongbong and Bangbang, battling in 'League of Legends', or surprising fans with impromptu collaborations with international creators like iShowSpeed, Polodared champions an uncompromising authenticity that defines the next generation of Korean hip-hop.
