Origins & Roots Born on March 18, 2000, in Seoul, South Korea, Kim Suhyun—globally known as Shin—grew up in an environment deeply immersed in discipline and athletics. Raised alongside an older sister and younger brother, his formative years were heavily influenced by his father, a former professional baseball player for the Ssangbangwool Raiders. This athletic lineage instilled in Shin an unwavering work ethic, competitive drive, and remarkable physical coordination.
Formative Years & Athletic Roots Before stepping into the mesmerizing world of K-pop entertainment, Shin carved out a formidable reputation as a young athlete. He actively played short track speed skating during elementary school and transitioned to baseball in middle school, eventually becoming a registered professional athlete with the Korea Sports Council. However, a parallel passion for rhythm, performance, and fashion began to eclipse the baseball diamond, redirecting his boundless energy toward stage arts.
Scouting & Trainee Trials Shin’s journey into the entertainment industry was marked by rigorous training and perseverance. Initially a trainee under C9 Entertainment, he trained alongside future stars and narrowly missed the final lineup for CIX. Undeterred by early setbacks, he joined Maroo Entertainment in the second half of 2018. During his trainee years, he even gained diverse life experience working part-time in hotel service, grounding his character before his official debut.
The Breakthrough & Ascension In September 2020, Shin made his official debut as a member of Maroo Entertainment's dynamic boy group GHOST9. Armed with striking visual proportions, exceptional dancing prowess, and captivating stage presence, he quickly became a fan favorite. Beyond music releases, Shin expanded his artistic footprint by starring in the cinematic short film *DOOR* in 2020 and making a remarkable stride into high fashion by modeling for Fashion Week 2025.
Legacy & Artistic Philosophy Today, Shin stands as a quintessential modern idol, seamlessly bridging the worlds of high-energy performance, competitive sportsmanship, and avant-garde fashion. Drawing inspiration from legends like Michael Jackson, EXO's Kai, and SHINee's Taemin, he continues to evolve as an artist. With his sharp INTP-T intellect, playful gaming habits, and dedication to his craft, Shin leaves an indelible mark on the global K-pop landscape.
